2016 Seminar Schedule

Here is the schedule for the classes and seminars at the 2016 SF Pen Show.  Classes are tuition based while seminars are free for all show attendees.  Space is limited for both classes and seminars.  Seminars are first come first serve at the show.  Classes require pre-registration.  Class tuition does not include show pass.  A show pass is required to be purchased at the time of registration. Registration for classes will open on June 15th.  To register for a class, send an e-mail to classes@sfpenshow.com.  Please indicate which class(es) and show pass you would like.  We will then send you an invoice.

UPDATE: For people interested in the Snorkel/Touchdown or Vacumatic repair classes but do not own a pen to repair, a limited number of loaner pens are available for the classes.  Please contact us for more information.

 

2016 Classes

 

Friday, August 26

 

8:30-12:15 pm

Michael Sull

Basic Spencerian  FULL

This class will teach the basics of Spencerian script.  The student will need to bring an oblique nib holder.  Nibs and ink will be supplied by Michael.  For those without a nib holder, plastic or custom wooden nib holders can be purchased at the show.  Space is limited to 25

1:15-5:00 pm

Advanced Spencerian

This class will teach advanced Spencerian.  The prerequisite is the basic Spencerian class or equivalent.  The student will need to bring an oblique nib holder.  Nibs and ink will be supplied by Michael.  For those without a nib holder, plastic or custom wooden nib holders can be purchased at the show.  Space is limited to 25

Basic Pen Repair

Description

To provide information regarding the processes necessary to repair button and lever filling fountain pens.

Expectations and Goals

At the end of the hour the participants will be able to open, clean, sac and polish a button or lever filling fountain pen.

Class size will be limited to 20

Required Materials

A button or lever filling fountain pen
Section pliers
Exacto knife
Small sharp scissors
A sac that will fit the fountain pen you bring
Sac shellac

There is no cost for this course. The course is a prerequisite for those participating in either Vacumatic Repair or Touchdown/ Snorkel Repair if you are not familiar with basic fountain pen repair.  Priority is given to those taking the Vacumatic Repair or Touchdown/ Snorkel Repair classes.

Vacumatic Fountain Pen Repair

 

Description
To provide information and hands-on experience to perform the repair of Parker and similar filling fountain pens.  Basic Pen Repair is pre-requisite for this class.

 

Expectations and Goals

At the end of the course participants will be able to open, clean, remove and replace a diaphragm and adjust ink flow in a Parker Vacumatic fountain pen.

Class size will be limited to 20
Required Materials


A Parker Vacumatic filling fountain pen (51, Duofold, Vacumatic)
Section pliers
Exacto knife
Small sharp scissors
Vacumatic filler unit removal tool
Shellac
Instructors will provide standard sized diaphragm
Tuition: $50.  If you pre-register and pay for both Vacumatic Repair and Touchdown/Snorkel Repair, the cost is $40 for each course.

Touchdown/Snorkel Fountain Pen Repair

 

Description

To provide information and hands-on experience to perform the repair of Sheaffer Touchdown/Snorkel and similar filling fountain pens.  Basic Pen Repair is
pre-requisite for this class.
Expectations and Goals

At the end of the course participants will be able to open, clean, remove and replace the sac, o-rings, gaskets and
adjust the snorkel tube in the Sheaffer Touchdown and Snorkel fountain pens.

Class size will be limited to 20
Required Materials


A Sheaffer Snorkel filling fountain pen – Touchdown filling fountain pen is optional.
Section pliers
Exacto knife
Small sharp scissors
Shellac
Instructors will provide o-rings, gaskets and rod for cleaning the snorkel tube, rods for installing the gaskets and
scraping tools to clean sac protector tubes.
Tuition: $50.  If you pre-register and pay for both Vacumatic Repair and Touchdown/Snorkel Repair, the cost is $40 for each course.
